Night Support Worker

Chester-le-Street, Durham

Meet the Client

I'm looking for a Support Worker who I can build a genuine connection with—someone who understands the importance of supporting me to live as independently as possible while respecting my choices and routines.

You'll support me with everyday tasks around my home, providing the right level of assistance with personal care, transfers, and daily living, always encouraging my independence and helping me achieve the things that matter to me.

Continuing my rehabilitation is really important. I use specialist equipment at home, and you'll support me with my physiotherapy programme, including stretches and exercises, helping me maintain my strength, mobility, and overall wellbeing.

You'll also need to be comfortable around large breed dogs, as I have a friendly puppy who is currently in training and is a big part of my life.

When I'm relaxing, I enjoy watching films and gaming, so if we share similar interests, that's a bonus!

Role at a Glace

As a Night Support Worker, you'll provide person-centred support to our male client, who has a spinal cord injury, within the comfort of his own home.

This is a lone-working role supporting an independent individual who requires assistance with specific tasks while maintaining as much independence and choice as possible.

Your role will include supporting with the evening and night-time routine, including:

  • Assisting with rehabilitation exercises, stretches, and physiotherapy.
  • Providing support with personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting (Peristeen), and moving and handling.
  • Supporting safe transfers using appropriate equipment.
  • Encouraging independence and promoting choice in all aspects of care.
  • Providing reassurance and creating a safe, respectful, and positive environment throughout the night.

The shift runs from 8:30pm to 7:30am, with active support provided until approximately 2:30am, followed by a sleep-in period until 7:30am.

In this role, you’ll support one individual with complex needs, working regular weekly shifts to build a consistent, trusted care team. While hours are usually stable, the position is offered on a zero-hours contract as care packages can change.

Your Schedule

Shifts are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Ideally we are looking for a full time position of three nights per week.

Active wake hours are 8:30pm to 7:30am, with 2:30-7:30pm as a sleep in.

What you'll have:

We’re looking for someone who brings thoughtfulness, reliability, and a genuine commitment to caring for our clients as much as we do. Add to that a dose of exceptional communication skills, and you’ve got the kind of teammate we can’t wait to welcome.

What to look forward to:

  • £12.75 up to £13.50 per hour (depending on experience with spinal injury and rehab)
  • Accrued holiday pay
  • Flexible zero hours contract
  • A Nest Personal Pension account
  • We recognise outstanding Active Behaviours via the Active Awards programme
  • Refer a Friend Scheme and earn yourself up to £1500 by recommending someone you know
  • ……and, of course, the support and guidance of our qualified clinical and business leadership teams so that you can really develop your career with Active Care Group

At Active Care Group, we want everyone to feel welcome and supported. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. If you need any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment or interview process, just let us know and we’ll be very happy to discuss this with you
